Ingredients

  • 3 packs instant noodles, noodles only, seasoning packets not used
  • 15 ml cooking oil (1 Tbsp)
  • 10 g garlic, minced
  • 50 g onion, finely chopped
  • 180 g canned tuna flakes in oil (1 big can)
  • 100 g hotdogs, sliced
  • 200 g tomato sauce
  • 30 g banana ketchup (about 2 Tbsp)
  • 4 g sugar (1 tsp), adjust to taste
  • 60 ml water (¼ cup), plus more if needed
  • 40 g processed cheddar cheese, grated, plus extra for serving
  • Salt, to taste
  • Ground black pepper, to taste
  • Water, enough for boiling the noodles

How to Make It

  1. Mince the garlic, chop the onion, and slice the hotdogs.
  2. Bring a pot of water to a boil. Add only the noodle blocks, leaving out all seasoning packets.
  3. Cook until the noodles loosen but still have some bite, slightly less than the package cooking time. Drain and set aside.
  4. Heat the cooking oil in a wide pan over medium heat. Add the garlic and cook briefly until fragrant, then add the onion and cook until softened.
  5. Add the tuna and break it into smaller flakes. Stir in the hotdogs and cook for a few minutes.
  6. Add the tomato sauce, banana ketchup, sugar, and 60 ml water. Stir and simmer gently until the hotdogs are cooked through and the sauce comes together.
  7. Stir in the grated cheese until melted. Taste and adjust with salt and black pepper as needed.
  8. Add the drained noodles and toss gently until evenly coated. Add a little more water if the sauce becomes too thick.
  9. Serve immediately with extra grated cheese.
Kubo Tips
  • Use only the noodle blocks. The seasoning packets are not needed for this recipe.
  • Keep the noodles slightly undercooked before tossing them with the sauce so they do not become too soft.
  • Adjust the sugar after tasting because tomato sauce and banana ketchup vary in sweetness.
  • Add water a little at a time to keep the sauce loose enough to coat the noodles.
  • Taste before adding salt because the tuna, hotdogs, and cheese already contribute saltiness.
  • Serve soon after tossing, as instant noodles soften and absorb sauce while sitting.
